Get ready, Suzuki community — something truly special is coming to Edmonton this fall!

This is Canada’s first national SMMC (Suzuki Music / Musique Canada) conference — an opportunity for Suzuki teachers, students, and families from coast to coast to gather, share, learn, and be inspired together.

For Students & Families

Whether your child is just beginning or already playing in an ensemble, there’s a place for them at SMMC. Highlights include:

• Instrument Group Classes, Enrichment Classes, Instrument Play-Ins (for all instruments except piano)
• Masterclasses for pianists
• Orchestra Programs for string players (Book 3+, intermediate and senior levels)
• Suzuki Social Night on Saturday, with food trucks, music, and fun for the whole family
• Culmination in a Grand Finale Concert at Edmonton City Hall on Sunday afternoon — featuring the premiere of Canadian Get Together by Joanne Martin

Fees are modest: the student workshop weekend is $80 (rising to $90 for late registration) ; orchestra programs are $115 (rising to $125) .

For Teachers & Educators

This conference is also a professional development bonanza. Here’s what’s on offer:

• Keynote Address by Karen Michele Kimmett
• A special presentation by the AIDAN Lab at University of Alberta on neurodiversity and music – sponsored by Long & McQuade
• Sessions and workshops on Suzuki philosophy, pedagogy, studio strategies, improvisation, and more
• Opportunities to observe master classes and group classes
• A chance to teach a group class or session yourself — group class clinicians are being recruited (honorarium: ~$65/hour)

Early-bird registration (until Oct 1) is $220 for SMMC members, $270 for non-members; after that the cost increases. There is also a virtual attendance option ($75 members / $125 non-members) for those unable to travel.

Hotel blocks have been reserved at the Sandman Signature downtown, and Porter Airlines is offering up to 10% off base fares using code SMCC25 for travel to/from Edmonton.
